Project Working groups

In pursuit of tangible project outcomes, the Alliance launched in June 2024 a call for SMR projects wishing to be considered for the Alliance’s Project Working Groups. Subsequently, the Governing Board, with the assistance of the Alliance secretariat, conducted a review and assessment of the 22 applications received.

The assessment of the applications was made based on the data provided in response to the eligibility criteria listed in Annex 1 of the Terms of Reference of the Alliance. This assessment did not discriminate project proposals on any technological or maturity aspects.

Following the 2nd Governing Board meeting, held on 7 October 2024 the first batch of SMR projects that would constitute the Project-Working Groups (PWGs) under the Alliance have been identified. This does not include the provision of any funding from the Alliance.

The following nine (9) SMR projects have been identified at that stage (press release available here).

A first progress review of the PWG projects was conducted in Autumn 2025[1]. The result of this reassessment confirmed that eight PWGs continue to meet the criteria set out in the Terms of Reference and have made tangible progress, albeit at different rates.
